4WD alignment parts correct the suspension and driveline angles that a lift pushes out of range. When a 4WD is raised, camber, caster and driveline angles change, and the factory adjustments often cannot bring them back within specification. Alignment parts such as camber bolts, caster wedges, correction arms and centre bearing kits extend that adjustment range or restore the original geometry, so a wheel alignment can set the vehicle correctly. Use the vehicle search to find alignment parts to suit your HYUNDAI COUPE.

What Do HYUNDAI COUPE Alignment Parts Correct?

A wheel alignment sets three main angles. Camber is the inward or outward tilt of the wheel when viewed from the front. Caster is the backward tilt of the steering axis when viewed from the side, which affects straight-line stability and how the steering returns to centre. Toe is the angle of the wheels toward or away from each other when viewed from above.

A wheel alignment is a workshop service that adjusts these angles using the adjustment built into the vehicle. Alignment parts are different. They add adjustment where there is none, extend the range of existing adjustment, or change the geometry so the factory adjustment can work again. On a lifted 4WD, they are often what makes a correct alignment possible. Driveline angles, such as the angle at a tailshaft centre bearing, are not part of a wheel alignment, but they are affected by a lift in the same way and are corrected with similar parts.

Do You Need Alignment Parts After a HYUNDAI COUPE Lift?

Often, yes. A lift changes the angles of the control arms, radius arms or axle, and those changes move camber and caster away from where the manufacturer set them. On some vehicles with a mild lift, the factory adjustment can still bring the angles back within specification. On others, particularly with larger lifts, the adjusters reach the end of their range before the angles are correct.

The clearest way to find out is a wheel alignment check after the lift is fitted. If the technician can set the angles within specification using the standard adjustment, alignment parts may not be needed. If the adjustment runs out, or the angles can only reach the edge of the acceptable range, alignment parts can restore the range needed for a correct setting.

The signs of geometry outside its range are often felt on the road. A vehicle that wanders, feels nervous at highway speed, is reluctant to return to centre after a turn, or wears its front tyres unevenly after a lift may need correction.

How Do You Correct Caster on a Lifted HYUNDAI COUPE?

Caster often drops when a 4WD is lifted, because raising the vehicle changes the angle of the axle or suspension arms. Reduced caster can make the steering lighter, less stable at speed and slower to return to centre. How caster is corrected depends on the type of suspension.

Caster Wedges for Leaf-Sprung Axles

On a leaf-sprung axle, the axle sits on the springs and is clamped in place with U-bolts. A caster wedge is a tapered plate fitted between the spring and the axle's spring seat. The wedge tilts the axle by a set number of degrees, rotating it back to restore the caster lost through a lift.

Wedges are made in different angles, so the right wedge depends on how much caster needs restoring. Because the wedge sits within the spring clamp, new U-bolts of the correct length are generally needed when fitting one. Tilting the axle can also change the pinion angle, so driveline angles should be checked at the same time.

Radius Arms for Coil-Sprung Live Axles

On many coil-sprung live front axle 4WDs, the axle is located by radius arms that run back from the axle to the chassis. The angle of those arms sets the axle's position and its caster. When the vehicle is lifted, the arms angle down further, which rotates the axle and reduces caster.

Correction radius arms are designed with a fixed offset or adjustable mounting position that rotates the axle back to restore caster at the lifted ride height. They are usually designed for a specific lift range, such as a modest lift or a larger one, so match the arms to your lift height.

Adjustable Trailing Arms and Offset Upper Control Arms

On coil-sprung live rear axles, trailing arms locate the axle and set its angle and position. Adjustable trailing arms allow the length of the arms to be changed, restoring the axle's position and pinion angle after a lift.

On independent front suspension 4WDs, replacement upper control arms with a fixed offset or adjustable ball joint position can restore caster and camber when the factory adjustment runs out. They also often provide more clearance for the ball joint at the lifted ride height.

How Do Camber Bolts Bring a Lifted HYUNDAI COUPE Back to Spec?

On many independent front suspension 4WDs, camber is adjusted using cam bolts in the control arm mounts. Turning the cam moves the arm in or out, tilting the top of the wheel. After a lift, the control arm angles change, and the standard cam bolts may not have enough adjustment to bring camber back within specification.

Camber bolt kits replace or supplement the standard bolts with bolts that offer a greater range of adjustment. Some are designed specifically for a vehicle's control arm mounts, while universal adjusting bolts replace a fixed bolt to add adjustment where none existed. With the extra range, a technician can set camber correctly during the alignment. Camber bolts suit vehicles that are close to specification but just beyond the factory adjustment, while larger corrections may need replacement arms.

Camber Bolts or Offset Bushes: Which Suits Your HYUNDAI COUPE?

Camber bolts and offset bushes both correct camber, but in different ways. Camber bolts give adjustable correction. They can be set to the exact angle needed during the alignment and readjusted later if the setup changes.

Offset bushes give a fixed correction. The bush's inner sleeve is positioned off centre, shifting the arm's mounting point by a set amount. They suit vehicles where the required correction is known and consistent, and where there is no room for an adjustable bolt. Which approach suits your 4WD depends on its suspension design, how far it sits from specification and whether you want to retain adjustability.

Why Does a HYUNDAI COUPE Tailshaft Vibrate After a Lift?

Many utes and 4WDs with a long wheelbase use a two-piece tailshaft, supported in the middle by a centre bearing mounted to the chassis. The angles at the universal joints along the tailshaft need to stay within a narrow range for the shaft to spin smoothly.

A lift lowers the rear axle relative to the chassis, changing the angle between the centre bearing and the rear section of the tailshaft. If the angle becomes too steep or the joint angles fall out of balance, the tailshaft can vibrate, often most noticeably when accelerating at certain speeds. Centre bearing alignment kits and spacers lower the centre bearing to restore the driveline angles. Vibration can also come from worn universal joints, an unbalanced tailshaft or a worn centre bearing, so have the cause diagnosed before fitting parts.

Can Alignment Parts Reduce Uneven Tyre Wear on Your HYUNDAI COUPE?

They can help when the uneven wear comes from geometry that cannot be adjusted back within specification. Camber outside its range wears one edge of the tyre, and incorrect toe scrubs the tread. Restoring the adjustment range lets the alignment be set correctly, which can reduce that wear.

Alignment parts will not fix wear caused by other problems. Worn ball joints, tie rod ends, bushes and wheel bearings let the alignment change as the vehicle moves. Incorrect tyre pressures, overloading and mismatched tyres also cause uneven wear. Have the suspension, steering and tyres checked alongside the alignment to find the cause.

Fitting HYUNDAI COUPE Alignment Parts: An Overview

Alignment parts change how the vehicle steers and handles, so they should be fitted by a qualified technician. Fasteners must be tightened to the manufacturer's torque specifications, and parts that clamp the axle, such as caster wedges, need correctly sized new U-bolts. A wheel alignment is required after fitting any alignment part, since the parts change the angles the alignment sets.

Alignment parts are one part of our suspension parts range, with alignment shims for control arms that adjust with packers.

Start with a wheel alignment check after your lift to see which angles are out of range and by how much. Identify your suspension type, whether leaf-sprung, coil-sprung live axle or independent front, and your lift height. Search by your HYUNDAI COUPE to find 4WD alignment parts to suit it.
